He's not as loyal to them as I thought he'd be! The issue is that Riku really, really loves Shinji, but the rest of them ... not as much! He doesn't know what to make of Sion, Aeris, or Katou, and he deeply respects Sanzo. A part of him is too guilty to really talk to Sanzo about his memories after what happened, though. So, his biggest loyalty spots go for Shinji and Sanzo, but his BIGGER loyalty goes outside the team, which is prooooobably not how it's supposed to work.
